Jan de Rijk said Har Vaessen had built up a strong reputation as a pioneer in the field of intermodal transportation, with a strong focus on central and southern European markets – in addition to its headquarters in Swalmen, Province of Limburg, the latter had offices in both Slovakia and Bulgaria. "Together, these offices are responsible for the daily coordination of both domestic and international transportation services with a fleet of more than 90 vehicles," stated Jan de Rijk. "The Har Vaessen Group has over 140 employees and generated total revenue of €22m in 2007."
According to Willem Heeren, managing director of Jan de Rijk Logistics, the acquisition of Har Vaessen was consistent with Jan de Rijk's business objectives as a European logistics service provider. "The expansion into central, southern and partly eastern Europe will further strengthen Jan de Rijk Logistics' European network coverage. We will now have our own offices in Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and Bulgaria," he stated. As a result, added Heeren, Jan de Rijk Logistics would operate out of 26 offices in 15 different European countries.
Headquartered in Roosendaal, Jan de Rijk Logistics is active in four different lines of business − international transportation and distribution, retail distribution, warehousing and forwarding. The company generated total revenue of €170m in 2007 and, it was stated, expected to achieve an annual figure of €200m by the end of 2008. It has over 1,000 employees, an owned fleet of more than 600 vehicles and 1, 000 trailer units. It also operates over 80,000 sq m of warehouse capacity.
